We have 3 main products in Scar Management, ScarSil Silicone Scar Gel, Scar Esthetique Scar Cream and Scar Fx Silicone Gel Sheets.

Scar Fx Silicone Scar Sheets

Scar Fx silicone sheet is the gold standard for scar reduction. It’s great for any body area and is especially great on any scars where the skin is discoloured or uneven like keloid scars, acne scars, surgical scars and burns. It is a single sheet that is to be worn daily for 8-12 hours for 12 weeks. We generally say wear it at night you are not out and about and your body is completely relaxed so the sheet has much better contact with the skin. If someone moves around a lot, we suggest a surgical paper tape be used to keep it in place. Apply the tape around the four sides of the sheet like a window frame. A good example of such tape is 3M Micropore. The sheet should be cleaned in warm soapy water once or twice a week to get rid of the dead skin cells that it will pick up. Please note that one side is sticky and one side isn’t, it’s the sticky side to the skin and because it is adhesive it will eventually get clogged up with dead skin cells and may not stick as well. That’s OK, it still works perfectly but just may need to be kept in place with surgical paper tape. The sheet needs to be in complete contact with the skin at all times so it may not be suitable for areas like men’s chins as they get very hairy very quickly and the sheet may not stick properly. For instances like that we would recommend ScarSil Scar Gel, as it can completely conform to a person’s skin without them having to shave every day.

ScarSil Silicone Scar Gel

ScarSil Scar Gel is a liquid silicone gel with additional ingredients for maximum effectiveness. It is designed primarily for moveable areas like the face, hands and other areas where a Scar Fx sheet may not be ideal. It is invisible and has no smell and dries very quickly. It should be applied to the scar 2-5 times daily for 12 hours a day with a quick swiping motion, like swiping an iPhone, rather than being rubbed in as it has to create a film on the skin. This is to be continued for up to 12 weeks or until you are satisfied with the results. There is no set time limit although studies suggest 12 weeks is optimum. Most people choose to apply the gel during the day as it doesn’t get smudged off as it would while sleeping. It should be applied to clean dry skin with no make-up under or over it. Sunscreen can be used over that area once the gel is dry. We would not recommend using ScarSil gel on the body as clothes tend to rub it off and then the effect is lost because it is essentially the liquid version of the sheet, it needs to occlude the scar in order to treat it. ScarSil is a very good companion to Scar Fx. Wear the Scar Fx sheet at night and use ScarSil during the day for maximum scar reduction.

Scar Esthetique Silicone Scar Cream

Scar Esthetique Scar Cream is a super-moisturiser capable of penetrating scar tissue, which most creams can’t, and it is great for keeping the scar soft after scar treatment with Scar Fx and/or ScarSil. The softer the scar is, the quicker it heals. It is also great for gently lightening skin discolouration like age spots or acne marks where the skin is intact but slightly coloured. Scar Esthetique won’t be able to treat a scar on its own, but we strongly recommend it as a companion product to Scar Fx and/or ScarSil gel. Scar Esthetique should be applied 3-5 times daily in small amounts as it is very viscous. Many people find they still have plenty left over when they have completed their scar treatment. You can use it as a medical grade moisturiser, it’s that good.

Combination treatment

The two products that will actually treat scars are ScarSil Scar Gel and Scar Fx Silicone Sheet. Scar Esthetique is a companion product that will soften and gently lighten the scar. You may use Scar Fx or ScarSil separately to treat your scar, but they work very well in combination – Scar Fx at night and ScarSil by day. As a general rule of thumb, if your scar is on the face or hands we recommend ScarSil Scar Gel (day) and Scar Esthetique (night). If it’s a scar anywhere on the body then Scar Fx (night) and ScarSil (day) are great. All the products are safe to use on children and pregnant and breastfeeding women.
